Systems Engineering Technician

Job Title: Systems Engineering Technician
Clearance: CBP Full Access / DoD Secret
Location: Sierra Vista, AZ

The Systems Engineering Technician reports to the Director of Engineering and participates in the design, implementation, testing, and troubleshooting of systems. Specific duties include the following:

  • Participates in activities concerned with layout and design of electrical circuitry, surveillance systems, access control systems, and intrusion detection systems to ensure conformance with statements of work, proposals, codes and safety regulations.
  • Conducts site surveys and implements system design according to company specifications and customer requirements.
  • Enforces company quality assurance and quality control policies and performs necessary inspections in accordance with industry standards, CMMI and QMS company processes and policies.
  • Assists Engineering department with the research, development, testing and evaluation of system designs.
  • Provides installation support to installation crews and engineering department.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and applies logical solutions to installation problems.
  • Uses complex diagnostic tools to calibrate or adjust electronic equipment to specifications.
  • Installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, and control systems and equipment.
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Tests, repairs and installs system equipment for installation or development, using test equipment, hand tools and power tools.
  • Replaces defective components and wiring and adjusts equipment to correct defects.
  • Provides systems engineering support, technical expertise and interacts with customers.
  • Contributes to bid and proposal efforts.
  • Provides deliverables, such as Bills of Materials, Quotes, and Proposals.
  • Prepares documentation used for all engineering efforts as assigned.
  • Communicates company/customer needs to vendors/subcontractors as necessary.
  • Recommends solutions to installation and customer delivery problems.
  • Communicates project status, deliverables, priorities, and contingencies.
  • Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints. Specifies System Layouts and Components according to design implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience

  • Two Year Technical Degree or equivalent experience; Engineering or Information Science or related degree preferred. High School diploma, or equivalent, required.
  • 1 Certification in technology area (fiber optics, manufacturer training, computer training courses).
  • Two Years Plus of related technical experience is desired but recent graduates will be considered based on course work and grades.
  • Working knowledge of Security system devices, major components and operating systems such as, cameras, card readers, control panels and power supplies, biometric devices, electronic strikes, magnetic locks preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of CCTV system operations preferred. Knowledge of infrastructure and installation methodology and industry practices preferred.
  • ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to meet Company Safe Driving Requirements.

Abilities

  • Must be able to travel, approximately 70%, for site surveys and installation support.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office and Windows Platform.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to interact at all levels of the organization and with customers.
  • Must have good communication skills utilizing both verbal and written communication to convey complex technical solutions in an easy to understand and actionable manner.
  • Strong detail-oriented skills; able to multi-task and change priorities quickly.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain related security clearances.
  • Able to secure a valid passport.
  • Ability to work designated schedule, as well as maintain attendance and punctuality.

Special Physical Abilities:

  • Able to work at moderately high heights, up to 40 feet above the ground using bucket trucks, scissor lifts, and ladders.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 60 lbs.
  • Able to work in outdoor environment exposed to varying high or low temperatures.
  • Must have sufficient physical agility to walk, climb, stand, crawl, and stretch on a continual basis.
  • Must be able to perform work utilizing small hand tools and power tools as required.
