LTS Wins Contract To Support Vital H1N1 Research Efforts
Bethesda, MD – Logical Technical Services (LTS) Corporation, a Sentrillion company, has been awarded a contract under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) to provide professional, administrative and management support services to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Division of Intramural Research (DIR) in Bethesda, Maryland, and Rocky Mountain Laboratories in Hamilton, Montana.
LTS will support NIAID's research efforts to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. The specific focus of this award will be novel influenza A (H1N1), a new influenza virus of swine origin that first caused illness in Mexico and the United States in March and April, 2009. It is thought that novel influenza A (H1N1) spreads in the same way as the seasonal influenza virus. For this reason, aggressive actions are being taken to understand the disease and develop therapies and vaccines against the disease as quickly as possible. To this effect, research scientists at NIAID are conducting studies in animal and human models to intercept this problem and spur advances in health, science and medicine.
The project began January 2010. LTS is contributing staffing and support services for this research effort, including technicians specializing in virology, pathology, and molecular biology, as well as specialists in bioinformatics, investigational new drugs (IND), clinical research, and nursing. Research will focus on new strains of H1N1 that seem to be becoming resistant to antiviral medications.
